For the last 2 days (03/26 and 03/27) the link to download the CrosSynergy puzzles has not worked.
When I try to download it, I get taken to this site:
http://www.chron.com/apps/games/xword/puzzles/cs110327.puz
where it says "No such article. We're sorry, but the article you requested is not currently available on Chron.com."
Does anybody no what's going on?
If anyone would care to go to the actual crossword page on the web site (the reason why papers like Houston Chronicle pay for the crossword feature),
http://www.chron.com/apps/games/xword/you will see a notice that the crossword feature has been discontinued.
If you wonder why such things happen, the above exchange might give a clue (no pun intended). :-)
For far too long, the crossword community (and this includes everybody) has taken too many things for granted as to how and why free crosswords have appeared for their gratification. You are starting to see the consequences of it. Free distribution of crosswords and software cost money to somebody. Until the business models get sorted out, expect to see increasing difficulties in access to quality crosswords especially with the use of Across Lite format and software that will undergo some licensing changes, another thing that has been taken for granted. We may need a complete reset of the industry or be subjected to mediocrity in content for the most part.
For example, I have been waiting for 3 months for the administrator of this board to incorporate a small courtesy change for something that brings traffic to this site from which he benefits. Such apathy, unfortunately, is going to cost everybody in the future.
