THEME: Four phrases suggesting additional thought
GOOD ONES: Gets in the pool, maybe BETS [office pool]
BTW: "Don't make me laugh" PUHLEASE [can't remember if I've ever had to write a word like this in a puzzle]
Straightened up NEAT [at first I thought the
clue should be "Straight up" then I thought the
answer should've been NEATENED; but I finally woke up and realized that "Straightened up" is adjectival as in "The room had been straightened up" hence it was NEAT.]
DOH and LISA are from
The Simpsons . I always thought DOH a misspelling of DUH and so dislike it, but I am most annoyed at why the LAT is fixated on this cartoon. Is there no other Lisa in our culture? Mona, maybe. It's as if academia's deconstructionism has taken foothold in this publication. Western Civilization as it has been known the two thousand years is to be eschewed in favor of the lowest common denominator of current pop culture.
RATING:
Three grins = Loved it; Two grins = Enjoyed it; One grin = A bit bland for my taste; One teardrop = Not much fun
