What's wrong w/ Friday's Across Lite puzzle links
« on: August 29, 2014, 11:57:56 AM »
Wall St Journal posted link: http://mazerlm.home.comcast.net/wsj140829.puz
Response: Sorry, the page you were looking for could not be found.
After some investigating, I found a better link to be http://www.fleetingimage.com/wij/xyzzy/14-wsj.html where you can download a year to date's worth of WSJ Friday puzzles.

Chronicles of Higher Ed link:
http://chronicle.com/items/biz/puzzles/20140829.puz
Response: Page not found
However, if I use that same link and substitute 0815 for 0829 (they publish only every other Friday in the summer) it does succeed in downloading the puzzle for August 15. My trouble last week was simply because no puzzle was published for August 22. But why it doesn't work for today's puzzle is, er, puzzling. Perhaps it will work tomorrow.

Ink Well has been ended as of July 3 http://www.chicagoreader.com/chicago/inkwell-farewell-goodbye-tausig-crossword-puzzles-end/Content?oid=14118354.

I Swear link: http://wij.theworld.com/puzzles/dailyrecord/DR140829.puz
Response: The requested URL was not found on this server.
But if I go to http://wij.theworld.com/ I get the Will Johnston Home Page and when I click the link for themed puzzles http://world.std.com/~wij/puzzles/wij-themed.html the most recent one is from 2011, and the most recent for themeless puzzles is 2012.

I would like to know, too.  Are these being permanently dropped from Across Lite?  I use the Crosswords app by Standalone, Inc. -- are they dropping access to these puzzles?  I'm not sure to whom these questions should be addressed, but it's frustrating to see the once-excellent, trouble-free access to various puzzles unravelling into a daily detective-work chore.

Thanks for your great detective work, pattybee.
