Healthy greens   KALES [one would think a professional wordsmith would chose to distinguish between healthy and healthful]   
   
Ajar, poetically   OPE [in my experience OPE is a verb, not an adjective: "ope your limpid pools," not "the door is ope"]   
   
Curly-tailed canine   PUG [their tails are not curly but curled]
