How Do I Get It Right
« on: March 30, 2009, 04:36:14 AM »
I have crosswords - made from Crossword Compiler and I would like to send 'em in - well, at least one - for crit.   Somehow I cannot get Across Lite right.   I follow the instructions to the letter and it seems to be what the instructions tell me.  However, it is not accepted and I cannot get it to format into Across,  I'm getting error messages such as too many lines in grid/heading not shown etc... it does get frustrating.
Helpppp!!! a desperate Aussie, please.
Al

Here's the notepad version I wanted converted to Across Lite.

Al, you can create an AcrossLite file directly from Crossword Compiler.  Here are the steps:

File menu -> Export
select AcrossLite for the Format (radio button)
you have various options for restricting the puzzle;
then press Export File and specify name and location

Hope I've understood your problem and answered it; if not, post again.

Now it is.
The next step is: Show and ask?

Now, there are a few things I need to do to the clues - I'll fix 'em.  Here's my effort - just check the top row above the grid - solution is not working it is in faded print so I cannot, check, scramble, reveal, etc.

The other query.  It shows Anthony Lewis (CCW) as author.   How do I get it to reflect my name? ...
finally, how do I post it to y'all.

I'm not sure what you mean by "solution is not working it is in faded print so I cannot, check, scramble, reveal, etc.".  Could you explain further?

To put your own name on the puzzle, go to File -> Information.

All is well.   When I converted over, I apparently hit too many radio buttons, thiking that was reqiured.   I then just used the Across Lite button and Bingo!  it all came out.
Now! how do I send it to Cruciverb for crit?

Al, when you post, note that on the bottom left of the posting panel there's a + with the words Additional Options.  Click there and that will give you the opportunity to attach a puzzle.  You should do this in the Post a Puzzle forum rather than here.

I know this post is a little late, in that a solution has been found. I just don't have the time to visit all the forums as often as I'd like.

But, for my own information, I would just like to know if the original problem may be because <down> was in lower case instead of <DOWN> in UPPER CASE? I know Across Lite is very particular about these things.

Just askin'

That could be one of the problems. The other main problem is the grid size is specified as 15 x 15, so you need to have 15 lines of 15 chars each in the grid section. You only have 9 lines from what I can see in the post.
