Piano bar piano, often   BABYGRAND
Many a Balkan native   SLAV
Covered with asphalt   PAVED
[from yesterday's puzzle] Asphalt layer, perhaps     ROADBASE

Why are there modifiers for three of these clues, but none for the other?  If extra asphalt were tossed on my lunchbox, how would my lunchbox be paved?  I think it would be "covered with asphalt."

Being to Brigitte   ETRE
Popularly accepted tales   LEGENDS [As we have become more sophisticated, old denotations do not always obtain, and connotations change the sense of words.  Legends may once have been popularly held as true, but today they are seldom if ever so.  In any event, legends are not "popularly accepted."
