After my assertion yesterday that the Lincoln Center was not named for Abe but a benefactor named Lincoln, I Googled my way to a recent
NY Times article that said that while the arts center was not named for Abe Lincoln, they could not find another Lincoln of record who may have owned the land originally called Lincoln Square which became the site of the NY landmark.
I was in high school (Broolyn, NY) when I learned that the site was named after a benefactor, so I have a vested interest in the history I was taught. Epistemological issues be damned, historicity be cursed, I refuse to be confused with facts. I know what I know, and I'm sticking to it!
