Webster’s is that it may to be out of date. Yes, it’s a denotation, by definition, but the connotation may have changed. Sometimes an entry is preceded by a modifier that says
often or
usually, and that explains how a word is used now.
Din is not today used to describe a single loud noise, say a bomb blast, but a steady cacophony.
