Author Topic: transfer clues and answers from completed puzzle to 2-column page  (Read 10025 times)

The way I transfer my puzzle clues and answers to a 2-column page for submitting to publisher is awkward and contrived. The clues column comes out fine when I use "post to clipboard," but answers come out in a row separated by columns. I have been bringing answers into Excel and converting the data to column. Any suggestions? I'm using CC v 9. Thanks.

The function you want to use is PRINT. I assume you're sending to NYT since everyone else accepts CCW or PUZ files.

NYT also accepts electronic submissions, but you still have to create a PDF to send them.  This is best done by the PRINT function in Compiler. There you will select HEADERS (where you will put your name/address/email information),  SOLUTION (NUMBERED), CLUES, CLUES WITH ANSWERS, and SEPARATE PAGES.

This looks best if you adjust your CLUE/CLUE PROPERTIES/PRINTOUT parameter to 70% clue width as a percent of total width.

Then SELECT Save PDF. This generates the file that you submit to NYT (see https://www.nytimes.com/puzzles/submissions/crossword) for the submission form.

If you need more details, please email me at mcclain.salem@gmail.com, and I can send you some screen prints that might make more sense.

Thanks, Mark. your directions did the trick. The key was the HEADER. I was ignoring that aspect, thinking, I guess, that I might want to tweak something at the last moment. Forget that. Just gotta make sure it's ready to go when I print, save and send. Now I can concentrate on my puzzles and not have the spectre of finishing hanging over me.

This was my inaugural visit to Cruciverb, and my first question.  It goes without saying the outcome augurs well for the future.

Thanks, also, for the offer of extended help, if necessary.
