IS there a THEME here? If so, WHAT IS the theme here in terms of substance or content? Except for the C's in this set, what MAKES this
a theme set, if so? Can anyone (including the author Marc Clain) tell me?

 It seems simply a set with two words each beginning with a 'C' 

1. CIRCUS CATCH
2. COPTIC CHURCH
3. ARCTIC ICE CAP
4. CUCKOO CLOCK

Take a look at 37 Down. "Foresees"

(I think it was the 8 July LAT crossword, not Washington Post)
