ELA is Portuguese --- not used here a whole lot --- in fact, never
ESAS is Spanish --- not used here a whole lot --- unless one is Latino
Is SHERO sexist in that it draws a distinction between male and female, or is it just so clever as to be PC?

STOL is an acronym for Short Take Off and Landing. It designates a plane the can use a short runway. The plane itself is not necessarily a "Small one."

Merl Reagle's crossword in today's Los Angeles Times is titled "KP Duty." Among the theme answers: KOIPOND, KITTPEAK, KHAKIPANTS, KELLYPRESTON and an exhortation to KEEPPUZZLING. It was an easy-to-solve puzzle with a cute theme.
However, I have a komplaint. "Quarterback's first name" is BRETT. "Quarterback's last name" is MARINO. I have no idea who "Brett Marino" is. The two clues give the impression that they refer to the same person. The clues should have been "A quarterback's first name" and "A quarterback's last name."
